JUKY 24, 2024 COCONUT OIL

Coconut oil can be used in cooking or applied directly to the skin for maximum benefit. It is known to help improve the immune system, brain function, and heart  health and increase energy and metabolism

Coconut oil can help boost metabolism because it is a “medium-chain fatty acid,” meaning it metabolizes differently from other fat types. The body absorbs the coconut oil and turns it into energy rather than stored as fat. In addition to boosting metabolism, coconut oil has other benefits, including reducing inflammation, improving cholesterol levels, and helping to prevent heart disease.

According to a study done by the National Institutes of  Health, coconut oil can help to reduce seizures. The study included just rats, but the results suggest that coconut oil could also benefit humans. Coconut oil contains a compound called medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs). MCTs are absorbed differently than other fats, and they can be used by the body for energy more quickly. Coconut oil can also help to improve brain function in people with Alzheimer’s disease

Coconut oil has a variety of  health benefits, including improved skin health. Coconut oil is rich in antioxidants and essential fatty acids, which are beneficial for the skin. Antioxidants help protect the skin against damage from free radicals, while essential fatty acids help keep the skin hydrated and improve its elasticity.

IT IS GOOOD FOR REDUICING STRESS AND IMPROVING YOUR ORALM/ DENTAL HEALTH

JULY 23, 2024 ANTI-INFLAMMATORY FOODS

Inflammation is a natural response of the body to protect itself against harm, but chronic inflammation can lead to various health issues, including heart disease, diabetes, and arthritis. Certain food are anti inflammatory as these contain antioxidants

One of the best foods is KALE Kale stands out as a superfood, primarily due to its high concentration of  vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. These nutrients, especially  vitamins K, A, and C, contribute significantly to its anti-inflammatory properties. Additionally, the presence of glucosinolates in kale helps in detoxifying the body, further reducing inflammation.

Another food is almonds Almonds are a powerhouse of nutrients and a great source of healthy fats, protein, and fiber. They are particularly rich in vitamin E, an antioxidant that helps combat inflammation and stress in the body. Almonds also contain healthy monounsaturated fats, which are known to reduce inflammation and promote heart health.

I enjoy this last food- Blueberries Blueberries are not only delicious but also a powerhouse of anti-inflammatory properties, mainly due to their high antioxidant content. These antioxidants, particularly anthocyanins, give blueberries their distinctive color and reduce inflammation. Regular consumption of blueberries has been linked to a decrease in the risk of heart disease and other chronic conditions associated with inflammation

JULY 22, 2024 TUMERIC

Derived from the Curcuma longa plant, this spice has been a staple in Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine for centuries. Its active compound, curcumin, is credited with a range of therapeutic properties, from anti-inflammatory effects to antioxidant activities

There are many medicinal benefits of tumeric. Some have been studied by the National Institute of Cancer Curcumin, the primary compound in turmeric, plays a significant role in alleviating joint pain and reducing inflammation, making it a popular supplement for those suffering from arthritis. Its anti-inflammatory properties are comparable to over-the-counter medications but without the side effects. Studies have shown that regular intake of turmeric can lead to significant improvements in joint pain and mobility for individuals with osteoarthritis, one of the most common forms of arthritis.

Turmeric’s impact on digestive health is profound, offering relief for various gastrointestinal issues. Its anti-inflammatory and antioxidative properties aid in soothing the lining of the digestive tract, providing relief from discomfort caused by conditions like gastritis and peptic ulcers. Curcumin stimulates the gallbladder to produce bile, a key component in the digestive process, thus enhancing the digestion of fats

As a cardiologist I use curcumin in many patients. Turmeric’s benefits for cardiovascular health are rooted in its ability to improve blood circulation and reduce cholesterol levels. Curcumin has been found to have a positive effect on the lining of blood vessels, enhancing their ability to regulate blood pressure and clotting

Curcumin, the primary active component in turmeric, has been found to affect cancer growth, development, and spread at the molecular level. It has shown the ability to kill cancer cells and prevent more from growing, especially in certain types of cancer, such as breast, bowel, stomach, and skin cancers In many patients with cancer , tumeric has been used as an anti-cancer herb. I utilize chemo-sensitivity and herbal sensitivity testing before I prescribe curcumin

JULY 18, 2024 BENEFITS OFMAGNESIUM

Magnesium maintains normal blood pressure, steady heart rhythm, and a  healthy immune system Magnesium is a crucial mineral that plays a vital role in over 300 enzymatic reactions in the human body, including energy production, nerve function, and muscle contraction. Despite its importance, many people fall short of their daily magnesium requirements, leading to various  health issues

Adults require 310-420 mg of magnesium daily, yet many are deficient, which can lead to  health problems such as muscle cramps, mental disorders, and osteoporosis.  Nuts and seeds are among the best dietary sources of magnesium. For example, just a half-cup of pumpkin seeds provides nearly 100% of the recommended daily intake of magnesium. Almonds, cashews, and Brazil  nuts are also rich in this mineral

You should consume leafy greens Leafy greens like spinach, kale, and Swiss chard are not only famous for their high fiber content but also their impressive magnesium levels. A single cup of cooked spinach contains about 157 mg of magnesium, which is nearly 40% of the daily requirement

Every individual should get their omega 3 in their diet If not from fish you can get froman algae source. Fish, particularly fatty varieties like salmon, mackerel, and halibut, are excellent sources of magnesium and omega-3 fatty acids, which are crucial for heart  health. A 3-ounce serving of cooked salmon provides around 26 mg of magnesium, coupled with the heart-healthy benefits of omega-3s

JULY 17, 2024 FOODS THAT HEAL

One of the most profound ways to ensure health, vitality, and wellness has always been through food. Food as medicine is not a new concept Heal through food stated by Hippocrates

Often heralded as nutritional powerhouses, leafy greens are a cornerstone of a holistic pantry. Their vibrant hues are indicative of the wealth of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants they pack. Regular consumption can lead to strengthened immune function, enhanced energy levels, and even a reduced risk of chronic diseases. From spinach to kale and from arugula to Swiss chard, to Brussel sprouts to broccoli - ALL CAN HEAL

Nature offers a bounty of berries and fruits, each bursting with a unique blend of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. These natural treats not only appeal to the taste buds but also play a pivotal role in the body’s cellular repair mechanisms. Blueberries, for instance, have been linked with cognitive improvements, while strawberries have compounds that are beneficial for skin health

And lastly there are nuts and seeds Nuts and seeds may be small, but they pack a mighty nutritional punch. Rich in essential fatty acids, protein, and a range of vital minerals, they are indispensable for heart health, energy production, and overall well-being. Almonds, for instance, have been associated with lower cholesterol levels, while chia seeds are known to be a great source of omega-3 fatty acids and fiber. Regularly including diverse nuts and seeds in the diet ensures a balanced intake of healthy fats, proteins, and other vital nutrients.

I do neat all of the above. I eat the leafy greens, fruits, and nuts and seeds based my blood type. As an Type O blood type I do not eat peanuts, pistachios, or avocados . I feel it helps reduce the inflammation in my body

JULY 16, 2024 BLACKBERRIES

I love blackberries. I have a mulberry tree which makes me very happy. Blackberries, the dark, juicy berries often found adorning grocery store shelves, are not just a delicious addition to meals and snacks; they are a powerhouse of nutrition and health benefits. Packed with essential nutrients, these berries offer a range of advantages for those who include them in their diet. Blackberries stand out for their impressive nutrient profile. A serving provides substantial vitamins, including vitamins C and K, and essential minerals like Manganese. Notably, they are also a rich source of dietary fiber, which is crucial for maintaining good digestive  health

The benefits of the nutrients found in blackberries extend far beyond basic nourishment. Vitamin C, for instance, is vital for the growth and repair of all body tissues and is widely recognized for its antioxidant properties. Vitamin K plays a critical role in blood clotting and bone  health. Although needed in smaller amounts, Manganese is pivotal for bone formation and nutrient metabolism.

Blackberries are renowned for their high antioxidant content, primarily due to the presence of anthocyanins, which give them their characteristic dark color. It is essential to add blackberries to your fruit salad. I try t eat blueberries ,strawberries and blackberries two to three times a week

As a cardiologist I recomend blackberries Blackberries’ fiber, potassium, and antioxidants contribute to cardiovascular health. For example, fiber has been shown to lower LDL (bad) cholesterol levels, a risk factor for heart disease. Potassium helps regulate blood pressure

So try blackberries…

JULY 15, 2024 APPLE CIDAR VINEGAR

Many of my patients take apple cider vinegar first thing in the morning before breakfast This fermented tonic, rich in acetic acid, vitamins, and minerals, has been revered for centuries for its medicinal properties. From aiding digestion to promoting weight loss and regulating blood sugar levels, the potential health benefits of apple cider vinegar are vast. Do you use apple cider vinegar or freshy squeezed lemon in water ? The presence of amino acids and antioxidants adds to its health-promoting qualities, supporting the body’s defense against oxidative stress. Moreover, its antimicrobial properties make it an effective natural preservative.

I feel most patients use apple cider for their digestive health The vinegar is rich in enzymes and probiotics, the beneficial bacteria that play a crucial role in gut  health. These components help break down food more efficiently, aiding in the absorption of nutrients

Many use apple cider to lose weight. Everyone is trying to lose weight I can tell by the number of patients requesting opzempic It has been found to have an appetite-suppressing effect, making you feel fuller for longer and reducing overall calorie intake. This is partly due to the acetic acid, which can slow down the emptying of your stomach and thus prolong feelings of fullness.

It does have am pact on your cardiovascular health Apple cider vinegar’s influence extends to the cardiovascular system, where it can enact positive changes in cholesterol levels and heart health. Research indicates that it can lower LDL cholesterol levels, known as the “bad” cholesterol, while potentially increasing the “good” HDL cholesterol. It also lowers blood pressure

So I don’t see a reason not to use in in room temperature water every morning

JULY 11, 2024 SUPPRESSING YOUR APPETITE

Managing appetite is crucial for maintaining a healthy weight and overall wellness. Certain foods play a key role in naturally suppressing hunger, making it easier to avoid overeating. Today, most individuals want a drug to suppress appetite These drugs are semaglutide and tirzeptide - also known as Ozempic and Mountjaro These are for individuals with diabetes There are foods that suppress appetite Some of these foods are apples, walnuts and green tea consumption

Apples are a powerhouse of nutrients and particularly rich in dietary fiber. This fiber slows down digestion, resulting in a prolonged feeling of fullness. Eating an apple before a meal can significantly reduce overall calorie intake I love apples for a good crunchy snack I usually spread a nut butter on it For me I use almond butter as peanut butter is inflammatory for Blood Type O

The one herb that has many medicinal properties is Camilla sinensis also known as Green Tea Green tea is renowned for its metabolism-boosting catechins. These powerful antioxidants aid in increasing the body’s metabolic rate, enhancing the ability to burn fat. Additionally, the modest amount of caffeine in green tea provides a gentle stimulant effect, which can help in reducing hunger. Regular consumption of green tea has been linked to weight loss and improved management of body weight.

Peter Bonjouro, ND Acu and I wrote a review about Green Tea twelve years ago citing its many benefits

The last are walnuts Walnuts are a nutritious snack rich in omega-3 fatty acids, known for their role in promoting a feeling of fullness. Unlike other snacks that may lead to overeating, walnuts provide a sense of satisfaction that helps in controlling appetite. They are also packed with healthy fats, protein, and fiber. Walnuts have omega 3 in case you do not want to get your omega 3 from fish or algae,

So do you need Ozempic ? You need to use these food suppressants and to exercise.
