You might know this as Alma. Its botanical name is Phyllanthus emblica. Alma contains the highest amount of ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) I encourage Vitamin C for many conditions in my practice. Alma is rich in polyphenols as well as other flavonoids including 30 % tannin. This plant has many actions/uses from being a mild adaptogen to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It is used in cancer as the whole fruit may enhance NK ( Natural Killer) cells. I like it as it reduces excess histamine production
Traditionally it has been used for treatment of any burning sensation in the body. I have seen it used for anorexia , cough, urinary discharges and even hemorrhoids. The fruit is also edible in different parts of the world.
In Africa a different species of Phyllanthus is used for its antidiabetic properties and its anti hepatic protective properties, I have even read studies on this African variety being used as treatment the against Hepatitis B and C
The Phyllanthus amarus plant has been studied and used in the treatment of HIV. I have been tryiung to demonstrate that there are many plants with anti viral activity
Until tomorrow…
