As a integrative physician I must always keep abreast of new studies involving botanicals and supplements. I keep abreast of any new conventional for diabetes. Recently an in vivo study was done on rats in Lima Peru. The study involved a commercial prepared extract called GlucoMedix. This product contains Stevia rebaudiana and Uncaria tormentosa ( Cat’s Claw) Historically Cats Claw has been used successfully as a herb to treat Tick Borne Infections ( such as Lyme Disease and other species)
These two herbs in GlucoMedix was successful in addressing the co- morbidities of diabetes mellitus. The positive or beneficial results could be due to the Stevia alone, the Uncaria alone or the combination.
This study is proof that herbal medicine can assist and support many conditions including diabetes. More work needs to be done. For the full study you can obtain it from www.townsendletter.com
Until tomorrow…
