Obesity Treatment Medical Center in New York City
Obesity--meaning a body mass index (BMI) or 30 or more (a normal weight range is a BMI of 20 to 24)—has become epidemic in the United States and with it a sharp increase in the risk for related medical conditions such as prediabetes, diabetes, hypertension and coronary heart disease, high cholesterol, breathing disorders during sleep, some types of cancer, and menstrual irregularities. Moreover, for people who already have coronary heart disease, Type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol or hypertension, obesity significantly increases the danger of complications. Even being overweight--defined as having a BMI of between 25 and 29.9—significantly increases the risk for these medical conditions. Fratellone Medical Associates uses an integrative approach to help patients normalize and then maintain a healthy weight, while addressing related health issues.
Treatment of Obesity
The Fratellone Medical Associates dietary approach is not a “diet”; instead, it involves a dietary lifestyle change. You won’t be told to read a book that tells you what to eat and what not to eat; instead, our approach is individualized and based upon blood profiles. (See The Importance of Diet) While discussing a dietary lifestyle change, we’ll also address psychological issues such as depression and anxiety as well as carbohydrate addiction. Plus. We’ll also provide an individualized, realistic exercise prescription for each patient.
